THOMAS WOODSinging Teacher, Vocal Coach, Tenor
ABOUT ME
I was born in the UK, however I grew up in Western Australia, completing a Bachelor of Music and Post Graduate Diploma in Voice through the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). I studied with mezzo soprano Patricia Price, and grew to discover my own voice as an operatic tenor, as well as my love of teaching through the mentoring of younger university vocal students.
I initially established myself in Perth as a soloist in the thriving scene of musical theatre and rock opera productions. I became a member of the West Australian Opera Company who over 6 years encouraged and developed my early professional opera career as an ensemble member and as a featured soloist in over 20 operatic productions and countless concert opportunities.

Having moved back to the UK in 2012, I continued to study voice, with baritone William Allenby and more recently with Italian soprano Capucine Chiaudani. Whilst teaching privately, I have also performed professionally throughout the UK and abroad with companies including Opera North, Holland Park Opera, Grange Park Opera, whilst continuing an ongoing relationship with West Australian Opera.
Recognizing the therapeutic and psychological importance of music, in 2014 I began a part-time masters in music therapy through the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol. I now live in Bristol, teaching singing, voice coaching and working as a music therapist with children with special needs. I continue to perform as a professional singer in opera productions, concert work and music theatre throughout the UK. I am also an Artistic Director for Opera in a Box, an innovative company promoting opera to new audiences and offering opportunities to young singers in the South West.
